Strands §2 and §5 read separately as two controversies; integrated, they are one exposure surface. Components are fact; the "pincer" read is labeled interpretation — exposure/coherence-of-pattern, not a claim the embassy will tap the ID system; intent not asserted.

  1. A centralized identity honeypot + a collection-adjacent foreign node near the comms spine are the two halves of one surveillance-exposure pincer — the high-value target and a vantage over the infrastructure its data traverses.
  2. One Login's own reported security gaps (lost DIATF cert after the iProov lapse, CAF shortfalls, a Secure-by-Design whistleblower) make the honeypot leakier — the "backdoors get breached" failure the corpus spine warns of (age-verification-abolition; the CALEA→Salt Typhoon precedent in spec-telecom-satellite).
  3. Biometric HNDL: identity/biometric data is non-revocable — you can't reissue a face — so a centralized biometric ID near (or routable past) a foreign collection vantage is uniquely dangerous: harvested-now stays compromised forever (macro-crqc-quantum-landscape logic, applied to biometrics).

Four compounding vectors the honeypot can't outpace (added 2026-06-16, #68)

Each moves faster than a government can update the infrastructure, and the one irreversible asset (biometrics) is the most exposed. Mechanisms documented/forward-looking-graded; the "can't outpace" read is labeled.

  1. CRQC / harvest-now-decrypt-later. A collection vantage over the City fibre (or any intercept of One Login/identity traffic) can store today's encrypted data and decrypt it later once a cryptographically-relevant quantum computer exists (the HNDL logic, macro-crqc-quantum-landscape; the Bullrun precedent in spec-disclosures-surveillance). "Encrypted in transit" is not future-proof.
  2. Post-hoc updates can't save already-harvested data. You can't re-encrypt what an adversary already holds; PQC-migrating a deployed national-ID backbone + fibre + wallet is a multi-year retrofit; and biometrics are non-revocable, so a later fix protects only future data. Retrofitting a centralized honeypot after deployment is the weakest moment to secure it.
  3. Governments change far slower than the threat. One Login already lost DIATF certification (a lapse, not a fix); the rollout is multi-year; the Sep-2025→Jan-2026 BritCard whiplash is policy churn, not nimble security. The defender's cycle (years) is outpaced by adversary collection (continuous) and the CRQC clock. The slow mover builds the honeypot; the fast movers harvest it.
  4. Open-weight frontier AI lowers the exploitation cost. Frontier "Mythos-class" open-weight models, expected open-source within months (forward-looking, to verify), would democratize automated exploitation, mass cross-dataset correlation/deanonymization, and cryptanalysis assistance to any actor — so the honeypot faces not just a foreign node but anyone with the open model.
  5. The identity-proof paradox (the hardest truth). Digital ID rests on public-key crypto for authentication. A CRQC (Shor) derives private keys from public keys — so the failure isn't just a leak, it's the collapse of the proof function itself: every credential becomes forgeable (anyone can impersonate anyone), the system can't distinguish you from an impostor because it breaks for everyone at once, and re-establishing identity post-break is a brutal bootstrap — population-wide PQC re-enrollment needs a trusted channel, but the old trust anchors are exactly what's broken, and the biometric fallback is non-revocable and maybe already harvested. A national ID anchored in today's crypto has a known expiry at which its whole value — proving who you are — evaporates and inverts into impersonability, with no easy way to prove who you are afterward. A diverse/decentralized identity surface degrades partially; a single centralized credential fails totally and simultaneously.

Compounded: a slow-built centralized biometric honeypot + a collection-adjacent foreign node + HNDL via future CRQC + open-weight frontier AI + a proof function with a built-in crypto expiry — the attack surface widens on independent clocks (collection, quantum, open-model capability) while the defender is structurally too slow, the exposed asset is irreversible, and the credential's core purpose self-destructs at the quantum transition. Build the chokepoint and you cannot, on any realistic timeline, secure it — and the day the crypto breaks, it stops proving anything at all. The strongest form of the anti-centralized-ID spine.
