Allied intel & strategic-geography nodes — Australia, Korea, Japan, Singapore, Hong Kong, Greenland/Arctic

Web-verified 2026-06-11. Structured + sources: geopolitics-allied-intel-nodes.json. Overlay — evidence-graded, excluded from the proofs. Pairs with geopolitics-contested-resource-states; ties to spec-disclosures-surveillance, spec-telecom-satellite, fin-nvidia-openai, macro-carry-trades, spec-unc-nk-attribution-map, macro-critical-minerals-equities.

The allied side of the same chokepoint map: who physically controls the rails of intelligence (signals/satellites), compute (HBM/chips), data (subsea cables), and the Arctic frontier. The AI-core's machine-verified "11-firm circular loop" silently assumes all of these stay open; each is a single-point dependency outside the firms' control.

Australia — the Five-Eyes signals keystone (+ rare earths)

Pine Gap (Alice Springs) controls US spy satellites covering ~⅓ of the globe — China, North Korea, Asian Russia, the Middle East — and Snowden's documents tie it to ECHELON / XKEYSCORE mass surveillance and to US strike targeting, reportedly including the 2026 Iran war via the joint bases (fact). On materials/defense: AUKUS (A$310M to the UK in Feb 2026 for SSN-AUKUS long-lead items; 3 Virginia-class + 5 SSN-AUKUS; Trump accelerating) is now explicitly linked to a US–Australia critical-minerals / rare-earths framework (Oct 2025); Australia took ~45% of global REE exploration spend in 2024 (Lynas, macro-critical-minerals-equities). Read: intelligence and materials in one ally — and the bases make Australia a co-belligerent surface.

South Korea — the allied compute chokepoint

SK Hynix + Samsung dominate high-bandwidth memory (HBM) — the memory layer every AI accelerator needs — supplying Nvidia, Microsoft, Broadcom and Tesla. This is "the memory chokepoint" behind the entire AI stack (fact). Strategically, Trump approved South Korea developing nuclear submarines (Gyeongju summit, President Lee Jae-myung), a watershed that could pull Seoul and its chip base toward AUKUS supply chains — offset against the DPRK threat (spec-unc-nk-attribution-map). Read: the single most important allied compute chokepoint — if Korea's HBM stops, the Nvidia/hyperscaler build stops; a physical dependency fin-nvidia-openai rarely prices.

Japan — two chokepoints at once

Even the only "US" HBM producer (Micron, ~21%) fabricates in Hiroshima and packages in Taichung, Taiwan — so US HBM runs through Japan + Taiwan; Japan also dominates chip materials/equipment and hosts TSMC Kumamoto + Rapidus (fact). Separately, Japan is the yen-carry-trade source funding crowded global longs; the JGB escaping yield-curve-control (0% → ~2.66% in 2026) raises the carry cost (macro-carry-trades) — the scenario engine's BEAR trigger — and SoftBank (OpenAI/Stargate) is here too. Read: Japan sits on the HBM/chip-materials chokepoint and the carry-trade funding rail; a shock to either transmits straight into the AI-core.

Singapore — the data chokepoint

Singapore is the dominant SE-Asia subsea-cable hub~28 cables landed + ~13 planned, the "Silk Road of the digital economy" — plus a top financial centre and AI-datacenter hub, holding studied US/China neutrality (fact). Read: whoever lands the cables sees and can control the data flow; Singapore is the allied-leaning chokepoint on Asia–Europe–US traffic — the civilian mirror of the telecom/CALEA surveillance rail (spec-telecom-satellite).

Hong Kong — the bifurcation, live

HK subsea-cable landing has stagnated since 2017: Beijing's opaque licensing blocks non-Chinese vendors and routes new cables away from HK / the South China Sea (e.g. SEA-H2X landed by China Mobile). Meanwhile HK is China's "AI + Finance" testbed (PBoC's Lu Lei, HK FinTech Week 2025) and the #3 global AI-finance city hub (fact). Read: HK is being absorbed into China's network + financial stack — the live example of the internet bifurcating into US-leaning and China-leaning rails; ties to Ant's paused HKDA + PBoC (spec-exchanges-asia) and the digital-yuan/CBDC rail.

Greenland & the Arctic — the northern chokepoint

The Arctic is the new militarized surveillance frontier: NATO "Arctic Sentry" (early 2026); Finland + Sweden accession gives NATO continuous Barents coastline; Russia rebuilt Kola Peninsula / Novaya Zemlya bases + a modernized submarine fleet; Northern Sea Route traffic grew ~40% (2013–25). Greenland's Pituffik + the GIUK gap are the Western early-warning chokepoints; China is a self-declared "Near-Arctic State" (fact). Read: the Arctic fuses every thread — materials (Greenland REE, geopolitics-contested-resource-states), military (subs, GIUK), intelligence (early-warning radar, undersea cables), shipping (NSR).

The pattern

The allied map is a set of physical chokepoints on the things the AI economy runs on: signals (Pine Gap), compute (Korea/Japan HBM + Taiwan packaging), data (Singapore cables vs Hong Kong's bifurcation), and the Arctic frontier. Every one is a single-point dependency outside the 11-firm loop's control — the rare-earth/HALEU lesson, applied to information and compute. Intelligence dominance and compute dependence run through the same few allies.
