Manufactured division — steering opinion toward group hatred, and contested social fault lines

Even-handed by design. This documents how public opinion is steered toward group hatred — and whose interest that serves. Stated plainly: antisemitism, anti-Palestinian / anti-Muslim racism, and anti-Asian / anti-Chinese racism are all real, all harmful, and all exploited. This block does not rank victimhood, endorse any hatred, or treat any group's targeting as lesser. It exposes the mechanism (inflame multiple sides) and the incentives. Companion to spec-foreign-influence-comparison.
1. The mechanism is channel-agnostic
- Inflame all sides. Documented influence ops — Russia's Internet Research Agency (2016) and the 2024 Tenet Media / RT case — pushed content to opposite sides of the same wedge, because the goal is polarization and distrust, not any single position. Hatred against a group and the backlash to it are both fuel. Fact (DOJ/Senate Intel).
- Algorithmic amplification. Engagement-optimized platforms structurally amplify the most outraging content; hate and counter-hate both maximize engagement, so the rails reward division regardless of intent. Fact + interpretation.
- Disinfo-for-hire. Commercial influence firms (spec-foreign-influence-comparison) sell wedge-amplification to states, parties, and corporations — so the manufacturer is often a contractor, obscuring who benefits. Fact.
2. The targeted groups (each real; each exploited)
- Jewish people / antisemitism — real and rising, exploited in two opposite directions: bad-faith "globalist/control" conspiracy turns criticism of a state into hatred of a people; and accusations of antisemitism are sometimes weaponized to silence legitimate criticism of the Israeli government's policy. Both distortions harm Jewish people and honest debate.
- Palestinians / Arabs / Muslims — anti-Palestinian racism and Islamophobia (real, rising) are exploited to dehumanize and justify policy, while genuine solidarity is sometimes smeared as extremism. The dehumanization and the smear are both division tools.
- Asians / Chinese — anti-Asian hate (which spiked during COVID) and anti-Chinese sentiment are exploited by threat-inflation politics (influence-china-tech): legitimate concern about the PRC state is blurred into hostility toward Chinese and Asian people — serving hawkish mobilization while harming a diaspora.
The firewall, stated throughout: criticism of a state or government is not hatred of a people — and conflating the two, in either direction, is the manufacturing move.
3. Whose interest division serves
- Foreign adversaries — sow chaos, erode cohesion and institutional trust (documented).
- Domestic political entrepreneurs — wedge issues mobilize bases, raise money, win primaries; the influencer economy and super-PAC primaries both reward the most polarizing stance.
- Platforms / the attention economy — outrage lifts engagement revenue; the model is structurally pro-division.
- Distraction — identity-wedge conflict crowds out attention to the capital/power structures this project documents (the AI-capital loop, the fiscal trap, the control rails). Labeled interpretation.
4. Japan — a full country-case
Japan is treated in depth in its own block, spec-japan-politics-social — party fragmentation (the LDP's double-chamber loss; Sanseito's anti-foreigner surge), foreign-linked influence (the Unification Church ↔ LDP), the demographic crunch, youth in crisis (Toyoko Kids, karoshi, hikikomori), the KuToo gender fault line, and cross-party free-expression politics (Zenko Kurishita, Taro Yamada; the manga-ordinance and payment-censorship fights).
What is NOT asserted
- This block does not rank victimhood, endorse any hatred, or treat any group's targeting as lesser — antisemitism, anti-Palestinian/anti-Muslim, and anti-Asian/anti-Chinese hatred are all real and condemned.
- It does not assert a single cabal manufactures division — it documents a channel-agnostic mechanism and the actors it pays.
- It does not conflate criticism of a state/government with hatred of a people.
- Zenko Kurishita appears solely as a free-expression / anti-censorship advocate (disclosed positive interest), on his documented public record.
- Overlay edges are excluded from the SCC / Z3 / TLA+ proofs.
