Frame. A matrix of who belongs to which bloc, surfacing the inconsistencies — the same states sit in rival blocs at once. Blocs: BRICS+, Quad, AUKUS, NATO, SCO, OPEC/OPEC+, G7, G20, GCC, ASEAN, African Union, and the competing corridors. The trend (documented, not psychologized): membership is non-exclusive and hedged. Discipline. Memberships are fact; the synthesis is a structural trend-conclusion stated without imputing motive or a unitary bloc "mind" (composition/division guard). 1. The blocs (fact)

The overlapping clubs: BRICS+ (Brazil/Russia/India/China/South Africa + Egypt/Ethiopia/Iran/UAE/Indonesia…); the Quad (US/Japan/India/Australia); AUKUS (US/UK/Australia); NATO (incl. US/UK/Turkey); the SCO (China/Russia/India/Pakistan/Iran/Central Asia); OPEC/OPEC+; the G7 and broader G20; the GCC; ASEAN; the African Union; plus the rival infrastructure corridors. Fact.

2. The inconsistencies (documented multi-alignment)

Stated as membership, not motive:

• India — BRICS + SCO + Quad + G20 + IMEC (with US/Gulf/EU/Israel) + INSTC (with Russia/Iran) — the archetypal hedger.
• Turkey — a NATO member that anchors the Russia-bypassing Middle Corridor, buys Russian energy/S-400s, and applied to BRICS (2024).
• Saudi Arabia + UAE — OPEC + BRICS+ + US security partners + IMEC corridor sponsors.
• Egypt/Ethiopia — BRICS + heavy US/IMF dependence.
• Brazil — BRICS + deep Western trade + the G20.
• Pakistan + India — both in the SCO (a bloc holding adversaries).

So the same actors appear on rival sides of the same contests. Fact (overlapping memberships).

3. The discipline

Per the composition/division guard: a state's simultaneous membership in rival blocs is institutional participation, not a feeling, a master plan, or a unitary national "mind"; and a bloc's "position" is not a single intention. The only defensible synthesis is structural: in a multipolar system, alignment is non-exclusive and hedged — which makes binary "West vs BRICS / democracies vs autocracies" framings leaky descriptions of who actually cooperates with whom on what.

4. The honest reading

The alignment "matrix" shows the headline blocs overlap heavily: the same swing states (India above all, then Turkey, the Gulf, Egypt, Brazil) belong to rival clubs simultaneously and hedge across them. The memberships are fact; the warranted conclusion is the structural one — multi-alignment/hedging is the norm, so bloc labels describe overlapping, leaky coalitions rather than fixed teams.
