University IP / patents layer: the research that became the crypto, AI, and biometrics stack

Wiring academia to the crypto/PQC, AI, and biometrics/surveillance blocks via the foundational IP it originated.

Public-key crypto + the quantum threat

• MIT -> RSA (US4405829, 1977) -> RSA Security; and Quantum_Computing -> RSA (Shor's break) - the reason PQC exists.

The PQC family tree (all academic in origin)

• Caltech -> McEliece (Robert McEliece, 1978) - code-based PQC (ties to the McEliece cryptanalysis watch).
• Brown -> NTRU (1996) -> Qualcomm (via Security Innovation/OnBoard, 2019) - the first practical lattice scheme.
• Tel Aviv (Regev) -> LWE/Lattice_Crypto (2005) -> ML-KEM (FIPS 203) - the theory behind the NIST standards.
• TU Darmstadt -> XMSS (hash-based sigs, RFC 8391) -> QRL - academia straight into a post-quantum blockchain.

The AI boom's academic origin

• Toronto -> Deep_Learning (AlexNet, 2012) -> Google (DNNresearch acquisition, 2013); Stanford -> ImageNet (2009) provided the fuel. (Sutskever later co-founded OpenAI.)

Biometrics -> surveillance

• MIT -> Eigenfaces (Turk & Pentland, 1991) -> Facial_Recognition -> Clearview AI + Digital_ID.
• Cambridge (Daugman) -> Iris_Recognition (US5291560) -> Worldcoin + national ID (Aadhaar).

Honest limits

Patents, papers, licensing chains, and acquisitions are fact (USPTO/tech-transfer/deal records); the "influence" of a method on a downstream product is a documented lineage, not a claim that the university endorses the use. Uses tech_transfer (structural) rather than the financial ip_license class, keeping the capital core clean.
